What Eligibility NRIs Should Have for IAS Exam in India?
Can NRIs appear in the IAS exam?
It’s a brow raising question. But, the fact is that every citizen of India has a right to appear in this exam.
Nearly, 31.2 million Indians serve the foreign countries temporarily. If you look at the count of the Indian expats across the globe, it’s a dumbstruck statistic. Online newspaper- Daily Social says around 4.1 million, 4 million, 3.5 million and 2.4 million emigrants with the Indian passport live in Saudi Arabia, Nepal, USA and Malaysia respectively.Â
Many of these NRIs have an intention to serve the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). So, they get enrolled with the IAS education, providing institution to crack through the prestigious IAS exam successfully. It’s conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).
If you’re also thinking about getting through this exam, you should have a clear picture of its criteria. Besides, you should have the transcript of the education paper. If you don’t have, you can bring your transcript to India through an email.

Be it Arts, Commerce or Science stream, the emigrant can be graduated from any of these fields.  In the nutshell, the non-residents should have a bachelor’s degree from any university.
The gate of this exam is open for all. The aspirants pursuing or have done CA, CS or MBBS could easily fill the form of this examination. But, they should have a proof of this eligibility. If they appear in the last year, they can apply provided that the final mark sheet and degree would be in their hands before its interview round. Â
To talk about the marks in particular, the candidate should procure 55% marks at least to prove their eligibility for the IAS examination.Â
It’s indeed a can of worms to win a rank out of lakhs of IAS aspirants. The Indian Express highlighted the participant count in this exam. Around 3 lakh candidates play a card of luck by appearing in 2018.
Every year, the aspirants wait for this exam form to be out in the month of February. And, March marks the closure of its application.
