Pedestrians Rights

This points to Kochi city and Kalamassery muncipality which is adjacent to cochin city. The public roads here have no stretch for human passage. one best example is the PWD road from Edappally toll towards to Pookkattupady, where the first stretch of about two kilometers up to Thrikkara temple is thickly populated , while there is no public path or even space to walk on both sides.

Both sides of this road are with full of pits and broken stones and water stretches during monsoon. The vehicles including large containers flood this road and the walkers including the aged , women, students etc struggle a lot through this road , to avoid accidents which do occur quite frequently. Similar are the conditions of many high ways in cochin city. Even in advanced countries , the citizens rights are protected by providing pedestrian paths and great care is taken to save the walkers rights. There is total apathy and inaction on the path of the authorities to look into this important aspect while constructing/ repairing roads.

This situation must change and it should made the liability of the local administration like municipalities to provide path ways and build bus shelters for the citizens.
